No - I don't think so. 

Music in the presence of the performer (whether interpretting 
the works of others - performing their own compositions or 
generating the music live by improvisation or jamming) has a 
magical quality that is not really available elsewhere (although 
it is often hinted at in live recordings). 

It is wrong to think that someone with a laptop is not playing 
live - and in all fairness I have experienced some stunning live 
laptop - Stock Hausen and Walkman supporting Zoviet France 
in Edinburgh a few years ago comes to mind as a particularly 
stand out example. 

In think that in time the laptop (or equivlant portable digital 
studio - 'cos thats what we are talking about) will become 
accepted simply because more people know what is going on.
