Re: [microsound] melody
melody and rhythm are of course one of the basic and
most important elements of all music in general and
many musicians use them in different ways. i think
it's always good when there are further explorations
in the melody-field.
take for example vladislav delay use of melody/rhythm,
the melody in his 'anima' album, and also 'multila',
'entain'...
melody is not boring, on contrary, it's probably
essential. the most important thing is how musicians
will decide to use melody, rhythm and all other
music/sound elements. at the end all those different
parts of music merge and join together in one
consistent piece of music, so when you listen 'anima'
you don't listen melody/rhythm and other music
elements like separate parts, but you listen the whole
entity. that's important, to create the entity of
sounds.
fennesz also uses melody in 'endless summer', but also
many other musicians like komet ? 'rausch', pan sonic
? 'aaltopiiri', shuttle 358 ? 'frame', or murcof and
his new and first album called 'martes' released on uk
leaf label. there is also a voice sample in one track,
but sounds really great like a whole album, the whole
entity of sounds, rhythms, melodies...
probably there are not very concrete borders between
the different music elements, they probably tend to
join together and to function together in music.
instead of thinking this way when making music: 'now i
will add some melody, and then some rhythm, and then
something else...', i think it's better if someone
thinks just: 'now i'm making music'. of course there
should be awareness of many possibilities and ways of
combining sounds and sound-elements.
