Graphic Scores | Possible Open Project

Dear All,

Re. Graphic Scores...

Anyone who's interested might want to try and seek out an article 'Sound,
code, image...' by John L. Walters published in Eye magazine, Vol. 7, Autumn
1997.

It's a well written, twelve page article with plenty of scores reproduced in
detail. It covers everything from Stockhausen and Cage (obligatory) to
Feldman and Kagel and uncovers works by a wide range of less well known
composers.

I found Kenneth Payne's 'Tonescript' system, "a carefully thought-out
system to aid musical appreciation" to be extremely interesting. There's a
reference to it here:

There are also some graphic scores for Pimmon's 'Assembler' CD here:

http://www.fallt.com/assembler

The graphic scores above were produced by Fallt designers Fehler and
exchanged as part of an ongoing process in the generation of the components
that make up the 'Assembler' release.

It would be interesting to explore this idea further in a more open project.
Several of the contributors to the .microsound list and/or genre are
designers/visual artists in addition to being composers. Thinking aloud:
Taylor Deupree, Richard Chartier, Steve Roden, eM /Michael Bentley, etc.

It might be interesting to see how the .microsound community reacted
in audio terms to some graphic scores contributed by some/all of the above
and/or some others?

Take care,

Christopher
