Non_pod and Non-Event are very proud to present the Boston-area debut of two
of digital music¹s most innovative producers, Rosy Parlane and Dion Workman.
ROSY PARLANE began making music in the early nineties as part of the free
improv and noise scenes in his native New Zealand. After playing percussion
and piano in such acclaimed groups as Thela, Pit Viper, and Empirical,
Parlane began working almost exclusively with electronics. In 1997 he
formed the duo Parmentier with Dion Workman (also ex-Thela). The following
year Parlane and Workman founded the Sigma Editions label, with Parlane's
acclaimed #1-4 as the imprint¹s inaugural release. On his most recent CD,
Getxo, Parlane continues to refine his subtle minimal aesthetic, while
adding new levels of complexity through digital production. In addition to
his solo projects, Parlane has collaborated with musicians such as Fennesz
and Peter Rehberg (Pita) of the Austrian Mego imprint and Eddie Prévost of
AMM. Parlane currently lives in London.
DION WORKMAN is an accomplished visual artist and experimental musician.
Workman has exhibited and performed his work throughout his native New
Zealand, Australia, Europe, and America. Over the years he has worked with
a wide variety of groups, most notably Thela (with Dean Roberts and Rosy
Parlane) in which he played guitar and the electronic duo Parmentier. In
1996, he founded the Gallery In Situ; a project space (of no fixed location)
for site-specific installations by contemporary artists. In 1998, he
co-founded Sigma Editions with Rosy Parlane. Workman currently lives in New
York.
PARMENTIER is Rosy Parlane and Dion Workman. The two first worked together
as part of the New Zealand based improv rock trio, Thela, with guitarist
Dean Roberts. After the dissolution of the trio in 1997, the duo continued
to perform together as Parmentier. Parmentier has released two records of
mesmerizing, densely layered lo-fi electronics: the e.p., Odessa, on
Crawlspace Records in 1997 and the CD, Luxsound, on Sigma Editions in 1998.
Since then, Parmentier has existed solely as a live project, touring
extensively in Europe and Australia.
