Re: pop will eat itself (and Moby too)
Amen, judging from the related articles the writer had written, and the
names she was dropping in the article, it wasn't clear that she had really
listened to much other than Massive Attack and Moby. Though I think I
might concur with her reasoning on Moby's ascent to the New King of Pop as a
result of the marketing guys not wanting to miss out on getting a piece,
almost like getting a second chance at the dot-com stock bubble. Ultimately
though, this article seemed more like a fan review than a critical view,
even stooping to the level of an apologist by berating dance music snobs (or
the equivalent words she used). Anyway Moby is the new neil Diamond.

That would have been a good article about Moby, except for the statement:
"Electronic music is so easy to make that it drastically lowered the bar for
anyone who wanted to call themselves a musician; the resulting homemade
simplicity defined the aesthetic but also limited it."
Electronic sounds are easy to make, good electronic music isn't. Mrs.
Goldberg seems to be suggesting that nothing complex can come out of
something simple, a sentiment I have a feeling a few of you on this mailing
list disagree with.
Mrs. Goldberg, meet Richard D. James.
