.microsound newbie

hello list members....

i am currently doing my final project for an MA in Music Technology at the University of York, UK, for which i am investigating the use of algorithmic techniques for .microsound/ glitch etc... using Max/MSP.

i have gathered together some fabulous samples (courtesy of my Mac repeatedly crashing) which work beautifully as percussive sounds. however, i am stumped as to how to get those fragile eggshell/ small-firework type sounds that twerk does so well and nearly all the sound design by thomas brinkmann leaves me feeling pretty clueless (001 is, well,... sheer genius).

can somebody point me in the right direction please? what sort of DSP techniques should i be swatting-up on?
