Wow, I'm part of the Morpheus Project...the "other group"
Video scratching has been around for a while, but it
has just recently been more accessable to more people.
This is due to faster and improved computer technology
and software....mainly for us macintosh. VJAMM is great
software but it is PC only, Johnny Dekam from NY has
developed a MAX/MSP/NATO set that does many of the
same functions. Prophet a video/audio sampler
(it's quite fun with audio too, try the demo) and VDMX
a video mixing tool.

While as microsounders we often utilize tools in
ways that they are not supposed to be used the
same is happening with video. I've got about
8 different 'video' software processing programs
and Final Cut Pro gives the best results, image
and responsiveness that you need to do "live"
visuals. Many of the "auto-sound" matching
techniques of these software programs don't
quite cut it. SO its great to know that a human
is still the main interface between the music
and the screen.

The Macintosh is a tool that I've come to enjoy
very much in my tool box for what ever I do
(music/sound/video/word processing/accounting/internet)

Video is the new area to apply many of my
sound approaches and techniques too and
also combine with the wonderful soundscape.
Because like squaresquare I'm frustrated with
the limitations of the film industry.

Respect to DJ Spooky and Kim Cascone for
grabbing my attention and turning my head
in another direction and finding my creative
outlet.
