clearly reveal the cultural amnesia (or dare I say, blind spot) of the
author...

this type of VJ work has been going on for at least 10 years...a little
research into EBN or the video work associated with the Coldcut crew would
have produced a more informative article and less of a journalistic fluff
piece that mainly serves as an advertisement for Apple Final Cut Pro and
Titanium G4 PowerBooks...

the following says it all:

"Wired News is sponsoring the coolest party at Macworld. On July 18,
Lapdance will
feature some of New York City's hottest PowerBook DJs and video mixers at
the
Remote Lounge in the East Village, beginning at 9 p.m. It's free, open to
all
and there will be a two-for-one special on drinks (with voucher, available
at
Macworld)."

this kind of reportage is tired, not wired...

>>i agree,
to have an article like that not mentioning a researched background of real
efforts in construction of software for this aesthetics (like coldcut's
vjamm, japans rythmic circle fuse, renan's aesthesis, etc, ) and artists
who've been using them for years now, show how writers dont do any research
at all into the subject they are reviewing. quite pathetic to be a wired
article i may say, i am a subscriber, and enjoy a lot the magazine, but this
lack on information research and documentation, and the fact of the wired
event behind it, that makes things feel, well, quite biased for such a
"serious" publication, har har......<<
