pop...seems to rely on triggering emotional response via
sentimentality...easily reached cultural landmarks like I IV V chord
progressions are as sentimental as"baby, baby, why don't you love me."
Oftentimes things that perhaps were not once pop become pop, because their
styles were so often referred to by those seeking pop.  Their originality
becomes muddled, because so many minds will eventually be exposed to the
reference, rather than the source...
