minimal anxiety

>As mathematical as Reich's compositional methods may be, I don't think that

a fugue is also a mathematical construct which can be heard that way if so
desired...minimal music (Reich, Glass, Riley, Young) was sometimes also
called "pattern music" because of the shifting patterns that occurr when
you shift 1/8th - 1/16th note patterns against each other obtaining a Moire
effect...look at the score for Riley's "Music in C" for more of a grasp on
modular patterns and how they interlock and create new patterns based on
their combination...

most patterns can be viewed mathematically as well as emotionally...I like
both...

>Obviously, you can listen to the mathematical aspects and enjoy the

>response.
music has no ultimate goal...the receptor is programmed with these
goals...there is no inherent message or meaning in music; only what the
receptor brings to it based on their associations...
