Re: analytical vs continental philosophy & microsound

"a positivist/pragmatist discourse around microsound (& music in general)
will most likely focus on the semiology & politics of music rather than its
poetics."

-- . Entirely incorrect in that the correlative (that continental
philosophy _does not_ discuss semiology & politics) is true; and believe
it or not analytic philosophy has much to say about poetics and rhetoric
(Aristotle).

Continental philosophy is concerned with the very basis of politics insofar
as we must question that which constructs the polis (np. Virilio). Analytic
philosophy is concerned with making rules about everything so we can know
God and Master nature, women, and other races; ie, we can rule the polis and
make shitloads of money under the rubric of the "good life."

The latter becoming some sarcasm there ... there is much to consider from
both traditions, and both have their oppressions and their freedoms.
However, continental philosophy / cultural studies generally harbours the
most experimental and radical of thinkers who live life to its fullest in
their thinking, unrestrained by the decorum of "philosophy." Of course, most
of "analytic" philosophers in the historical tradition were exactly as
described; what needs to be distinguished is the contemporary, 20th century
interpretation and appropriation of radical thinkers from history into a
framework of conformist conservatism that constructs contemporary
"analytic," "pragmatist" approaches, ie Rorty.
