i think it depends on what you're looking for from the recording.

IMHO, the performance on the older ECM version is far superior to the Nonesuch version even though it's shorter and the sound quality is inferior.

the "bonus footage" on the Nonesuch version was composed specifically for that release and wasn't part of the original concept of the piece (think "Star Wars - The Special Edition").

the Nonesuch release has much nicer packaging and a decent essay on the history of the piece. however, the ECM version has Reich's original sleevenotes which describe the composition of the piece from the artist's perspective.
