the SAT, noise factory records and clonk presents an evening of
montreal firsts featuring the inaugural montreal event for clonk and a
dual cd release for naw [founding member of the clonk collective]

clonk a collective dedicated to promoting bleeding edge electronic art was
founded in the city of toronto in the early winter months of 2000 by neil
wiernik [aka naw] and greg smith [aka ethermann], they were later joined
by kristyn gelfand [aka clip]. recently one of the founders [neil wiernik]
of the clonk collective has relocated back to his home town of montreal
with the goal of establishing clonk in the very town that had given him
the roots and influnce to begin the collective in the first place.
clonk has had a long history in the city of toronto which includes events
featuring artists both aural and visual from all over canada, the us and
europe.

clonk is happy to announce its first ever montreal event featuring a dual
cd release for clonk resident artist naw. naw will be releasing 2 new full
length cds on noise factory records and piehead recordings in september.
to help celebrate this occassion we are happy to present the following
event on september 28th 2002.... along with our clonky friends:

crackhaus:
stephen beaupre and scott monteith [aka deadbeat] inspired by the micro
sampling work of fellow montrealer akufen [marc leclair], and
international luminaries such as mathew herbert, monteith and beaupre
began the Crack Haus project earlier this year in the interest of further
exploring the use of unconventional sound sources [found sounds] within
the confines of traditional house and techno aesthetics, and the
development new multi-user performance interfaces.

naw:
montreal born neil wiernik and recently retransplanted back to montreal
from toronto, is a media artist turned electronic music composer who began
creating electronic music in 1988. Known to push the boundaries of his
musical form - from designing new or manipulating existing sound making
devices and software to creative uses of production environments and sound
sources. though his composition and production styles are diverse, he
keeps a central focus throughout all his production: experimentation.
neil's recent work is a hybrid of minimal techno, dark ambient, dub, and
other experimental music's. under the naw moniker Neil has performed
extensively in canada and out side of, along side a variety of local and
international artists.

granny ark:
deejaying and producing original material since 1998, michelle irving aka
granny 'ark [vancouver] has performed at venues across canada and europe
as well as guest appeared on numerous albums. performing a self-described brand of
"x-tek" [influenced by all styles of electronic music], she will be
performing live material from her recently self released album 'what i don't know'.

tobias:
tobias [aka saibot] currently lives in montreal and is pursuing an
ma in communications at mcgill on the politics of electronic
music, although he hails from the west coast of canada. he has been
enmeshed with musikal resistance culture since 1993, djing
cutting-edge forms of techno, house,
and electro, often on three turntables and with the infusion of tricks,
cut-ups, and experimental techniques. he has a taste for
dramatic minimalism, dub, and detroit, although he considers himself a
"collector" of many forms of vinyl transmissions, from funk to musique
concrete.

johnny ranger:
the artistic projects of johnny ranger include video works,
interdisciplinary shows, performances and web art. He founded
mindroots in 1997, a laboratory of interdisciplinary creation
dedicated to the invention of new sensuous metaphors for our interrelated
realities, in which he collaborates with artists from many different
artistic backgrounds. he has presented poetic theory of
interconnections at the thtre lachapelle in 1999, as well as the solo
performances la vie qui nous anime at tangente and into the
reservoirs at MAI in 2001. as well, he created the web art
pieces the fabric of reality for the biennale de montral 2000
and everywhere/toutpartout for the new museum of contemporary art
in new york. he is also a video-jockey for special live techno events and
parties, notably for epsilonlab, meg 2000 and passage

we hope to see all you montreal folks out ....

thanks

neil
