RE: [microsound] vladislav delay at Tate Modern, London: sold out !

some thoughts on Delay....

"Ele" on sigma, the orignal live mix at rainy day (what ever the hell that
is) is one of the highlights in my cd collection. The sounds on the Sigma
disc have a warmth not present in his more recent work. Someplace there is a
interview where Delay states that he did'nt have a single sampler, that he
sold all his drums for thrift soft electronics, the sigma release sounds as
though it was made from such devices. Some kinda of charm exists in that
first release, not heard very often, but totally emulated by so many people
these days (without much success, other than sounding like the surface of
ele).

Ele is such a outstanding recording. No one in the dub electronica vein has
managed to surpase the depth and diversity of that recording yet. Sigma
would be wise to re-release "Ele" the version on MP lost something compared
to thelive mix(but maybe I need to go back and listen to it again.) Ele is
trully an inventive album, sublime in nature, a true journey through distant
landscapes, in which one cannot always anticapte whats coming next,
brilliant for the time it was released.

No one ever seems to mention his work as Sistol, great stuff, also he
released a wonderful 12" on T. brinkmanns label Max Ernst, there is a really
nice porn sample buried deep within one of those tracks.

And then there's mutila.... and what ever happened to chain reaction???
