David Fodel, as "devslashnull", is one member of OVNI and part of a growing
number of purveyors of the "new pop" combining elements drawn from
underground dance music, experimental pop, and the exploding field of live
VJ'ing. Utilizing a decidedly punk approach to what might otherwise be
described as bookish, academic advances in audio and media production, Fodel
eschews the "bleeding-edge" and instead focuses on the gurgling, bubbling,
turbulent spaces left in its wake. devslashnull's solo sonicPOP performance
will consist of live arrangements of the upcoming release, "Poppy," with
accompanying data visualizations realized through custom software developed
in collaboration with OVNI member and electronic media pioneer Brian Kane.
Recent releases of Fodel's music include further audiovisual collaborations
with Brian Kane: Moonshine Music's Spaced Out DVD and Addictive Television's
Mixmasters 2 Series.

:: upcoming sonicPOP ::

Spotlighting new explorations from performers working at the intersection of
the sonic arts and pop culture, sonicPOP provides an audio corollary to the
museum's current "POPjack: Warhol to Murakami" exhibit. Performances will
take place the third Thursday of each month throughout the duration of the
current POPjack exhibit.

george&caplin bridge the gap between pop playfulness and the crackling
atmospheres of left-field electronica. Songcraft melds with post-digital
sensibilities to create intricately layered textures from analogue
instruments (guitar, trumpet, vocals) and an array of electronic and digital
devices (keyboards, samplers, re-wired speak-and-spells).
