Re: [microsound] Binaural Beats
I don't know about all the brainwave mumbo jumbo, but this little hack
is pretty cool for making weird sound (microsound?). Thanks for the tip.
Oh, and I don't know what folks are talking about with all the
psychological and perception stuff. Beating is certainly a physical and
observable phenomenon. Sound is nothing more than air molecules being
pushed and pulled. Beating occurs when two waves interfere with each
other, causing some pushing to step on some pulling (and vice versa) and
some pushing to add to some pushing (and vice versa). That's a dorky way
of saying that there's some summing and cancelling and that causes
beating. To prove it to yourself, generate the two frequencies in a
sound editor (with a wave form display... like sound forge or peak) and
then mix them together... voila, beautiful, egg-shaped beats.
