Re: [microsound] paris

hey neil,

if you're around, you should pass by WAVE recordshop where i'm currently
working (but only once or twice a week). There's a few independent stores
worth visiting such as BIMBO TOWER, L'OEIL DU SILENCE or KATAPULT. There's
not that many interesting venues - sadly the Batofar is about to close - ,
but there's more and more small art spaces, which allow curious people to
see small concerts, performances or installations. It seems like there's
more and more interest towards electronic music in the realm of contemporar=
y
art, giving more and more grants to music related projects - sometimes a
little overhyped and fake, cause most of the mundane art world has no clue
of what underground is about, but is at last half-opening its doors - and
we don't wanna "spit in the soup", do we ??
Herv=E9 owns a very fine label, as great others like Deco and Evenement.
Keep in mind those names: SOGAR, FABRIQUE DE COULEURS, DISCOM, TEAMTENDO,
PORT RADIUM, VICNET, EXCH POP TRUE, GEL:, KAP BAMBINO, GROUP_GRIS, BEFFROI,
VS_PRICE, B.I.A.S., MY JAZZY CHILD, ERICH ZAHN, DDAMAGE, ORGAN, NOAK KATOI,
O.LAMM, HYPO, FEADZ, VLAD, OCTET, ENSEMBLE, CRASH NORMAL, ELECTRONICAT,
ULTRA MILKMAIDS, BATTERY OPERATED, TARLOSE, CEDRIC PIGOT, VINCENT EPPLAY...
they're all part (well, some way or another, even if they sound totally
different, which means you can't really pack them in tha same lucky bag) o=
f
an expanding scene w/ plenty of interesting newcomers - it builds up slowly
but surely, and it seems more and more open-minded and interconnected, from
the most fucked-up experimental noise to the sweet and sour digipop, withou=
t
neglecting so-called IDM and concrete music (as the important output of
METAMKINE in grenoble). i think it's very positive to make that kind of
correlation - working with people out of contemporary dance, performance or
conceptual art, perverted (beautified?) w/ a healthy dose of punkish
spontaneity.=20
[Maybe we just need more artists and less ART, as well as a more creative
use of technology rather than technology for the sake of it.
Not a statement, just a personal opinion...]
There's a huge techno/breakcore related scene as well, for the best and
(more often) the worst. I bet too there's quite a few unknown
electro-acoustic composers lying in the dark somewhere, slapping themselves
every morning w/ some old recording of Boulez.
As a resume, i think you should just meet the right people to introduce you
to that small world, that doesn't need to mention Deleuze every 2 seconds t=
o
make great music.
check as well that amazing festival for headphones taking place in a
parisian flat every summer: http://placard5.dokidoki.fr/

what else can i say ??? well...welcome !!!
