Hi, Dino. By "music sharing ideas on the web", I'm
assuming you mean collaborating via the web. If that's
so, the web has been an invaluable tool. Personally,
probably 90% of the collaborations and remixes I've
done wouldn't have happened if not for the ability to
transfer files via FTP, grabbing them from sites, and
sending files as attachments to emails, and also
sending files through ICQ. Examples: on my Highest
Common Denominator album, only 1 of the 6 songs done
with other artists was done in person ("Loon Stats" was
recorded with I8U in her studio when I was in Montreal
this past summer on tour). The track with Building
Castles Out Of Matchsticks was done through sending
files through ICQ, the ones with Polmo Polpo, Dalglish
(ask O.S.T./Rook Vallade/Rook Vallard), and Kim Cascone
involved sending MP3s as attachments to emails. Re:
remixes, the web is a great way of saving time: you can
send the artist/label your version(s) through online
means to get their comments before sending the final
mix(es) on CDR for them to use for release. Andrew
