Re: [microsound] top 10
I, too, am a sucker for these top 10 lists. Glad to see some diversity of
influences in your post, j. I'm curious as to your take on the new Bowie.
Any impressions you'd share about that? I've enjoyed a couple of
performances I've seen of his on TV, but I have a hard time with Bowie,
mostly because of his obvious facelift.... okay, just partly kidding there.
Seriously, I wasn't too into his latching onto the britpop resurgence a
while back, and so my feeling is that with _heathen_, he might be just
latching onto some current electronic-pop stuff but not ultimately doing
anything fresher than what he did on Low and "Heroes". Are my fears partly
justified or does he come up with something fresh on this?
anyway -- here are my top twelve for the year, not in any order:
1. The Church, "After Everything Now This"
2. Fussible, "Odysseo"
3. Richard Pinhas, "Event and Repetition"
4. System, "System"
5. Boards of Canada, "Twoism" (re-release)
6. Stars of the Lid, "The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid" (2001)
7. Obliq Recordings, "4213"
8. Raymond Scott, "Soothing Sounds for Baby" (old stuff, but we just got a
copy from a friend to celebrate the birth of our baby boy on July 28, 2002)
9. No Type compilation, "the freest of radicals"
10. Schlammpeitziger, "Collected Simple Songs of My Temporary Past"
11. snd, "Tender Love"
12. Tarwater, "Dwellers on the Threshold"
Cheers and happy holidays to you all!
