You mentioned tape delay so I'm assuming you know how to listen to the 
playback head while you're recording to get delay.  Then feed that signal 
back into the input as a feedback loop for a repeated delay.  If your 
machine has varispeed, use a really fast tape speed for a short delay time, 
add a little feedback, and you would essentially have "reverb".
