RE: [microsound] standard sound cards

"i was thinking in the shower... is there any way of, say, using a standard
PC sound card like a multi-track card, with the help of some fancy helpful
software? i thought you might be able to do things like a 4-track. so
you'd use the line-in left/right channels as two separate tracks, and then
use the mic-in left/right channels as the same, simultaneously. that way
maybe you could mic up a drumset or something, recording everything to
separate tracks, mixing them later. what do you think -- impossible?"

Not at all. An SBLive has a second set of line inputs on the card itself for
the AUX input. Actually, lots of old ISA soundblaster's have 'em (my kids
and my wife all have Vibra16 cards with an aux input on the card). It's
really just a matter of construction a breakout cable of sorts for the aux.
The connector is the same as a CDROM connector, I've soldered a set of RCA
connectors to the cable and fashioned a connector that fits into a 25pin
serial connector spot on my case. It has the AUX connector and CDROM SPDIF
in connector (also RCA) on it. BTW, I use an Audigy MP3 for my music these
days, but it's got the same connectors as the SBLive did.
