Re: [microsound] do mp3's cause hearing damage?



I was in a hurry this morning, so I didn't elaborate... the mp3 codec
works by eliminating the parts of the music that we can't perceive. What
the author of that article proposes (and doesn't really back up, if you
ask me) is that we may actually need that missing information on a
sub-conscious level and that prolonged listening may cause ear fatigue
and maybe even damage. I'm still not explaining it very well... it all
sounds like tenuous conjecture anyway...
