top something/happy new year

as i start to write this out, i'm not sure how many
will be on the list.  also, they're not all from 2002,
but i bought them this year and they have been new for
at least me this year.  

new soul:  reverberation remixes by muslimguaze
     a lot of people say muslimguaze is repetative and
every album sounds the same.  well, his work keeps
suprising me.  maybe that says something about me, but
i really do think there is amazing detail barried
under the main loops that dominate his music.  nobody
ever has sounded like him, and probably never will. 
really unique music is hard to come by, so i like to
gobble it up.  

the man comes around by johnny cash
    like good wine, he gets better with age.  i
usually like cheap wine, but not in this case.

filament 1 by otomo yoshihide and sachiko m
    it took me long enough to pick this up, and i
don't know why.  this recording seems to contain a
charming amount of modesty.  i guess that's a funny
reading for me to have since the music is suppose to
lack emotion or "performance," or however i heard it
said in an interview with otomo.  

iannis xenakis:  persepolis remixes
    the ryoji ikeda mix is definately party music.  

gift by hanayo
    the best combination of noise, disturbing cover
art, beats and cute, catchy melodies i've heard.  

from filthy tongue of gods and griots by dalek
    it's kind of hip hop, but only recognizable as
such because of the vocals.  so noisey at times.  

the no music by themselves
    so incredibley detailed.  infinitely layered and
really really witty.  even through the wit, it strikes
me as pretty honest.  

the promise of lomonosov by coin gutter
    a lot of melody here, really interesting contrast
to current trends.  and these guys are also really
hot.  

someone should write up one of those trendy what's hot
and what's not in microsound.  you know, like the
lists in cosmo or maxim.
