As usual , the Tao answers indirectly the question we pose.=20

This phrase: "to act without acting, to be busy without being busy.... =
is how the sage
acts." for me pretty much sums up the whole debate about political - =
motivated music .=20

Having lived through a dictatorship period in my country ( Brazil) when =
all art was somehow induced to be politically inclined , I can assure =
you that the most effective art-ifacts were the less obvious ones. The =
Tropicalista movement, in the late sixties for instance, led by Caetano =
Veloso, Gilberto Gil , Os Mutantes et all , was heavily criticized by =
the left , for not being political enough, yet it was their music and =
attitude that provided in the long run the most revolutionary effects. =
=20

Changing people's perspective of reality is what art is good for , and =
that should be the aim of political-engaged art.=20

So ,inspired by the Tao, my sugestion would be : Fill your mind with =
political information, but forget all about this while making your =
music. Make as good music as possible, given time the results will =
appear.=20

Hi Aaron. I see you've stirred up SOMETHING. ;-) I would be willing =
to
bet that your brother's inclinations toward "political action" are =
more
geared toward his own temperament and less so on Zen Buddhism. At the
risk of drawing ire from some list members and if you'll indulge my

But, before people hit the "reply" button in order to argue against =
