OT - indexing continuous mp3 file

Slightly OT tech question:

I was wondering if there are any applications out there
or if the mp3 format even supports it.

I would like to be able to add markers or index points
within a long continuous mp3 audio file (live show
or DJ style mix).

With the markers I'd like to provide Song and Artists
information.

Is this possible?
Do mp3 players support this (ie will they show
new track info and allow jumping around to
the next/previous tracks)?
Will CD burners translate this info when
burning a mp3 file to a redbook CD?
