I agree, I think one of the biggest issues to consider in this kind 
of work is how to deal with the visual side.
For me it's essential to make the medium itself the visual component. 
I don't like the idea that there is nothing at all to see. This is 
something to do with the integrity of the materials; when I compose 
electronic music, I prefer it to sound electronic: If I write music 
for piano, I want it to sound like the piano.
In my last installation everyone was given a printed statement which read:

The sculpture is not the object: The sound is the matter::
