Actually anyone follow this up? I tried to websearch a bit but I was
getting too many hits and nothing specific. 

Now here is what I theorize. Certainly in that day people who could
compose would also be able to either sing or play instruments. So far
I've found zero refrences of Dali composing or playing an instrument...
not counting tieing preists and a dead donkey to a piano.
