UPCOMING COURSES AND WORKSHOPS WITH DAVID DUNN AT THE CENTER FOR
CONTEMPORARY ART

Sound as Art Material: A Workshop for Artists/Performers/Musicians/Writers
February 15 &16, $120
10AM-4PM, CCA Performance Space.
Please bring a lunch
David Dunn will present a two-day intensive workshop on audio resources 
for artists. Topics to be covered will include the historical tradition 
of soundart, basic sound design, soundscape recording, text sound and 
language,techniques for visualizing sound, using sensors/transducers, 
moving sound inspace, image to sound software, building simple audio 
circuits, hardwarehacking, and recycling toys and other found 
sound-making objects forperformance and installation art forms.

Discovering the Sonic Environment:  Acoustic Ecology and Soundscape
Recording
Thursdays 7-9PM, $110 (5 sessions) plus $10 materials fee
CCA Performance Space and additional sites.

Limited to 16 people
As a five-week course in Acoustic Ecology and Soundscape 
Recording,participants will be exposed to a wide range of ideas, 
techniques and technologies for focusing and sensitizing their aural 
awareness of the world around them. We will consider how increasing 
aural awareness can alter our relationship to the environment and what 
impact human sound making has uponother living things. Other topics of 
interest will include general acoustic communication, bioacoustics, 
interspecies communication, techniques for documenting the soundscape, 
and guided listening techniques/exercises.

David Dunn
Composer and sound artist David Dunn was born in 1953 in San Diego, 
California. From 1970 to 1974 he was assistant to the American composer 
Harry Partch and remained active as a performer in the Harry Partch 
Ensemble for over a decade. David Dunn has been active in American 
experimental/electronic music since the 1970s, working in a wide variety 
of audio media inclusive of traditional and experimental music, 
installations for public exhibitions, video and film soundtracks, radio 
broadcasts, and bioacoustic research. Dunn is the recipient of a variety 
of awards and grants including multiple grants from the National 
Endowment for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, Langlois Foundation 
, McCune Foundation, Ford Foundation, and various Meet the Composer 
grants.  His compositions and wildlife sound recordings have appeared in 
hundreds of international forums, concerts, broadcasts, and exhibitions. 
Currently Dunn is President and Program Director of the Art and Science 
Laboratory and a member of the Institute for Conservation Studies (both 
in Santa Fe)

REGISTERING FOR GREENROOM CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS AT THE CENTER FOR
CONTEMPORARY ART:
Please register as early as possible, as many programs have enrollment 
limits.  Full payment is required before the first session. All programs 
take place at CCA, located at 1050 Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe, unless 
otherwise noted. In the event of a change of location or cancellation of 
a program, registrants will be notified.  There are currently two ways 
to register:

By Phone:
Call (505) 982-1338 to register.  You must speak with a staff person. 
If there is room in the class, you will be signed up and will have five 
business days to send in the full price of the course.  If payment is 
not received by the fifth business day, your slot will be given to 
someone on the waiting list. If you are registering within five days of 
the beginning of a course you will need to drop your payment off at CCA 
with a staff person, not a volunteer.

In Person:
You can register in person at CCA, 1050 Old Pecos Trail during the 
following times:
Mondays 12-5pm
Tuesdays 10-1:30pm
Wednesdays 1-5:30pm

If there is no limit on the class size, you may be able to register for 
the course on the day it begins.  You will need to confirm this 
situation by calling 982-1338 prior to the class time and speaking with 
a staff person.

Online registration is not available at this time, however you will be

Refund and Cancellation Policy
If you cancel more than 10 days before the beginning of a course, you 
will be given a full refund minus a $10 processing fee.

If you cancel 3-10 days before the beginning of a course you will be 
given a 1/2 refund minus a $10 processing fee.

No refunds will be given if you cancel within 48 hours before the 
beginning of a course or workshop.

There will be no refund or credit of any kind if you do not show up for 
a workshop or course without giving us prior notice.

If you start a course and decide not to continue, no credit or refund 
will be given.

Financial Assistance and Work/Exchange
Financial assistance is available through a limited number of 
work/exchange slots for each course and workshop.  If you are interested 
in the work/exchange option, ask about openings on the course you are 
interested. In the case of being put on the wait-list please indicate 
your interest.

Assistance for Students with Disabilities
CCA will do everything it can to support the participation of people 
with special needs.  Upon registration please indicate your needs and we 
will contact you to discuss support possibilities.
