filtering

it's not that the filtering per label isn't strict enough...its that now
*everyone* can be a 'record label' by putting out a mp3 or a CDR...and there
are more 'labels' now than ever...so across the board there are more
musicians releasing more music on more labels due to the easy access to
tools on which to produce, edit, and distribute media...this is what I was
referring to in my last post...there isn't more mediocre music (i.e., as a
larger percentage of some fixed amount of music being made) but there is
more music being produced, a portion of which happens to be mediocre...the
end effect is similar but has the upside that more good music is made and
able to be distributed by channels other than the ones owned by major
labels...filtering for good content becomes a formidable task because it
exists in a 'space' which is dense and hard to navigate...lists like
microsound help somewhat by facilitating the exchange of opinions and
content...
