check out some good music
I haven't lost touch with the micro scene :-)
Fonica, Ripple (released by Plop)
Fonica is duo of Keiichi Sugimoto and Cheason, the
designer of this japanese Plop label. Keiichi is also
a member of another band called Minamo and runs
another label from Tokyo called Cubic Music. Minamo
have one track (actually it's a 16-min composition) on
a cd released by the american label Apestaartje.
Minamo's music is very much chilled out, and it's
improvised at the same time. They are electro-acoustic
quartet that plays some relaxed improvised music, not
extremely improvised, it's like they're lazy to play
the instruments and the result sounds like
sleepy-improvised music. There is something of that
lazyness in the music of this album by Fonica. Most of
the tracks are mixes of blurry and peaceful electronic
sounds and the sound of the acoustic guitar. There are
9 original Fonica tracks that sound like
alternative-country microsound, that's why I'd
recommend this album to fans of Lambchop, Pullman and
similar bands. + there are 2 remixes by Mitchell
Akiyama and Sogar, I think only the Plop version of
the album includes the remixes. Ripple is released now
by Plop for the asian countries and will be released
in April 2003 by the german label Tomlab for the rest
of the world.
