yep, the one and same. 
i've only ever read Hafiz in english translation, but yes, his poems do
contain multiple layers of meaning.  some of them even carry over in
translation. the most obvious being that they are one one level romantic
love poems, and on another Sufi teacing stories/meditations.
i think part of the fun of reading him is trying to figure out what some of
the deeper levels are on your own, i'm thinking part of the fun is the
journey. even though i'm not Sufi, and of course miss most of the subtle
stuff, i still get alot out of reading him.  
i don't know about the movement thing you mentioned. that's interesting
though. i have some Arabic and Persian friends, i think i will ask about
it. anyone on the list write Arabic? 
also, as i understand it, his poems were not origionally written, but sung
as he walked through the streets of Shiraz.
