not to get too off topic, but since you mention the patriot act, a friend of
mine was eating dinner at a kashmiri restaurant in NYC the other night and
in the middle of dinner the place was raided by the office of homeland
security. ten officers, guns drawn, restaurant owners held at gunpoint, five
women entering everybody's information into portable laptops... real 1984
type shit. when my friend had the audacity to ask if the people there had a
right to a lawyer, an officer pointed a gun at him and said that they could
take anybody anytime and hold them for as long as they want without a
lawyer--including him, which they said they'd do if he didn't shut
up--because of the patriot act.
