What about using an eeg as a timer?

You might want to check that guy out. He's done some pretty bizarre
body-sounds performances. I think the mist relevant is the one where he
connected himslef to a wooden structure by means of hooks through his
body. The strcture was held up by his weight. He used various kinds of
microphones to pick up his heartbeat, muscle creaks, etc. and then played
them back very loudly at the structure which caused it to vibrate.

semi-interesting anecdote: The signals from my brain to my heart are sort
of reversed. My heart rate has been around 90-100 bpm's resting(including
during sleep) for all of my life and it tends to go down slightly with
excercise.
