re: sound activities with kids?
hello folks!
it went as well as i expected today. after watching my daughter play
with the pie plates, i decided to just bring them and to forget the
ping pong balls...one thing at a time is certainly enough for a two
year old.
i told them we were going to make a tin plate orchestra, and handed
out the tin plates. i asked them what kind of a sound you could make
with the plates. they all started banging on them. i tried to
divide them into soft and loud sections, but they weren't focused
enough to do it, so i concentrated on trying to get a few other
sounds out of the plates...holding them with one finger and tapping,
crinkling the plates, rubbing on them, and dropping them from a
height. that was it.
after it was over, i felt that we could have spent the whole time on
trying to make different rhythms, but all in all, i would have done
better to take the "let's see what kind of sounds we can get out of
this" approach.
i kept a cassette recorder on the whole time, so i have some sounds
to listen to and perhaps do something with for the parents (the kid's
first cd!).
if i get anything interesting, i'll post it somewhere as an mp3.
thank you all who responded!
best future,
john
