some concrète field suggestions
hello,
well, i don't do anything but lurk these days... though i thought the=20
following items might interest fellow microsounders. a kind of sound to=20
which i've taken a definite liking, a sort of environmental musique=20
concr=E8te mixing in the rawness of real sound & thrilling pacing, with very=
=20
purposeful processing. of course, as with everything, it's all a matter of=
=20
taste, but i find this music very appealing.
first, there is cal crawford's limited edition CDR _halifax.flume=20
ridge.lisbon_... 13 awesome abstract field compositions from cal crawford,=
=20
10 numbered copies. personally i think it's his best album to date. if=20
you are in the least into environmental sound & processed field recordings,=
=20
then you should do yourself a favour & buy this CDR. i don't know how to=20
describe it but it's beautiful & i don't understand it! this was made to=20
meet my ears!
i also heartily recommend v.v.'s _note_: starker & more monolithic, but=20
again, rich with events & quite rough on the edges. another artist whose=20
production i follow as closely as i can. his mini-CD _the animals in these=
=20
cages..._ was one of the highlights of last year for me, & word has it that=
=20
a CD reissue of this is in the works (with aesova perhaps?), along with=20
other of his pieces.
in a similar vein, one of the new no type releases (officially out on april=
=20
15, but--) is coin gutter's new CD _all your dreams are meaningless_, which=
=20
reissues (& remasters) their previous limited CDRs _truth lifting up its=20
head above scandals_ & _the promise of lomonosov_ plus extra tracks. of=20
course, i can't be too impartial on this one, so look out for sound clips=20
at the URL below if you'd like to hear for yourself...
here are the URLs of the first 3 CDs, which you can order from=20
electrocd.com (well, i like them, so i order them, & isn't that logical?):
http://www.electrocd.com/cat.e/cc_01.html (cal crawford)
http://www.electrocd.com/cat.e/cs_011.html (v.v.)
http://www.electrocd.com/cat.e/imnt_0310.html (coin gutter)
any further suggestions on the subject are of course welcome. i'm always=20
looking forward to hearing more artists working in that 'aesthetic'.
have a nice day
~ david
