RE: [microsound] RE: [personal] [microsound] Ableton Live and MP3



Why must this come down to being 'lazy' or not?  That's obscuring the
issue.  Pre-converting the mp3's to wavs before a show is what I do at
the moment, but I simply don't have the space to store them *all*
de-compressed.  So if the mood of the performance shifts in an
unexpected direction, I am limited. (or, as I do now, I run up a copy of
winamp and play through that - not really optimum though)

My laptop is used for work as well as play, so my sound projects have to
coexist with lots of other data.  Sure, I could get a large external
hard drive, but buying more hardware is not always the best solution.
More money outlaid.  More gear to lug around.  More power requirements.
(I often play on a 12V battery-powered sound system, with limited power,
and no inverter, so external drives arent really an option)
