video sound design

hi, all
i need a piece of advice
i was asked by a friend to provide sound for a short video piece - not just
music but sound design, which has to run in sync with the video. I've never
done this before and I'm hoping some of you can recommend me a software
which allows easily alining audio with video without too much of a learning
curve.
( the work needs to be done by wednesday, so I'm in a hurry)
I heard Pro Tools does this, is this right?
