Not to start a war, but the "third coast" moniker has been used by 
the Texas crowd for quite some time (I first encountered it in the 
'80s). The Chicago usage appears to have started around 1995. It 
seems a little odd that people along the shore of Lake Michigan (not 
strictly speaking a "coast") should appropriate a label already 
entrenched among their neighbors to the south, but it has clearly 
caught on in the Chicago area. Here are some examples of its
