An algorithm is a "recipe" designed to produce certain results 
through following a determined set of procedures. An algorithm can be 
highly determinate or relatively indeterminate.

It is the product of an artist who used semiautonomous algorithmic 
methods to realize a specific version of an essentially indeterminate 
composition. You might liken it to Alexander Calder's mobiles. Calder 
makes a mobile. It is an original work of art. Calder takes a 
photograph of the mobile. It is a particular "instance" of his work 
of art.
