something simple
_____________________________________
'something simple' is an evening of work by students in the MFA=20
programme at the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser=20
University. Rather than being a culmination of months of study,=20
this is a spontaneous event, perhaps even as fresh as the spring=20
itself. It will include pieces created =91thus far=92 and in-process=20
experiments.
Jacky Sawatzky=92s work 'Blink' is about the intersection of the =
physical=20
and the rational, showing the development of technology and the=20
relationship the technology has to the human body. Phil Thomson will be=20
presenting something best described as an audio installation. 'Address'=20
is the title of Faith Moosang's sculptural photography. Peter Conlin=92s =
contribution to this show is an installation that explores what it=20
means to be an artist at this present moment. He will attempt to do=20
this by creating an art ruin from the recent past, and hopes to avoid=20
lapsing into calculated despair. Christine Stewart's DVD installation=20
'Rivulet' focuses on subjective experience as the filter for a common=20
reality, and traces the anonymity of the individual within the crowd as=20
a vehicle for exploration of alternative narrative structures.
May 23, 7-10 PM, Bartlett Gallery, Third Floor 611 Alexander St.,
Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Thanks to Sara, Vish, Paul and Wendy for assistance.=20
