Re: [microsound] talk about supersonic signals and distortion

I don't know much about the technical side (what soundcards/monitors/etc
are best) but I have experimented with super and sub-sonic waves. I find
that people's reactions to it vary widely. Some people do not even notice
them, some people have very strong reactions. Physiology varies widely
from person to person when it comes to the edges of our abilities. Most
people can hear 440Hz but when you go really hi or really low, I think the
percentage drops.

I personally find such sounds to have great emotional tone. With acoustic
instruments there are partials that we cannot hear but somehow add to the
presence of the instrument.

As far as sub-sonic goes, be careful. Very high amplitude sub-sonics can
be dangerous. They're fun tho. Being able to feel sound and not hear it.

Those of us who do a lot of randomization with sound may be using extreme
frequencies and not even know it.

I know it has a strong effect on me, can't speak for others.
