[ot] 12" PowerBook Headphone Jack

Hi all,

I purchased a 12" G4 PowerBook last week, and finally got around to
some audio work yesterday only to find that the headphone jack on my
machine makes a quiet but nonetheless very noticeable buzzing sound.
The sound gets worse as I open and close windows, almost as if there
is interference caused by the screen. It also increases significantly
in volume when I plug in the power adaptor.

The sound goes away temporarily if I jiggle the headphone plug in the
jack, but suffice it to say that this isn't the best possible
solution. I can only imagine the sound coming back to haunt me if I
bump the headphone plug during a live performance.

Is anyone else using a 12" PowerBook and having similar problems? If
so, have you found a good solution (other than taking your PB in for
service)?

I seem to recall discussion of a similar problem with an older model
PowerBook on the microsound list, and someone suggesting Griffin's
iMic as an affordable solution:

Does anyone have any advice? I'm loving the speed of the 12" PB, and
really don't want to have to take it in for service less than a week
after buying it! 8-/

Thanks!
