Actually, Coltrane's playing on _Interstellar Space_ is not only
describable, but relatable to his work dating back to _Impressions_.

Lewis Porter gives over quite a few pages of musical analysis to "Venus"
and provides 5 pages of transcriptions. I think you'd have to conclude
that Coltrane's late period music is VERY structured, not more or less,
and that he possesses a characteristic approach to tonality that isn't
adequately described as "noise."
