From my own experience, thats a fine and slippery line and mostly
drawn on the basis of where one stands. If your perspective is such
that you expect references to the historical to be engaged primarily
in legitimation then I suspect thats what you'll find. I would defly
agree w/you that problems arise when one uses this catchy formula of
"the new [fill in the blank]" but not all historical frameworks are
trying to legitimate in a hollow or simplistic manner. Not all are
trying to reduce difference.
