it depends on the CD players. Usually they play a small amount of sample
(the buffer) and then they skip to the next amount... it's granular!
Some cd's (especially the newest) apply fade-in and fate-out attenuation
(envelope?) to the buffer so that the "click" is unable to be heard (and
you have the feeling that the song is going double speed with preserved
pitch). Old cdplayers instead just play "raw grains" and so there are
more "clicks".
But all this is just what I guess on the CDplayers I have at home :)
