Re: [microsound] [OT] linux audio

myo,

been using almost nuthin' but Linux for a while already. takes a bit of
learning and finding new working habits, but by the end you will know
more about how your computer works, and how it processes audio, than you
ever thought possible :-)

easiest route is using Red Hat Linux plus the sound packages from Planet
CCRMA.
more "pure" open source way to go is with Debian with sound packages
from DeMuDi [however, these are a bit buggy still].
there is also Turnkey, which is a collection of audio packages for
Mandrake [don't know how up-to-date these are].
last, you could go with any distro you like [Knoppix, GenToo, etc...],
and compile all your sound apps from source code. for the truely
hard-core...

here i have a collection of Linux multimedia links which cover
everything i mentioned above and more:
http://pd.iem.at/pdwiki/index.php?PD%2BOpenSourceworkshop

the PD list is a good resource, as is the Linux Audio User list at Stanford.

have fun!
derek
