For solo instrument only: Loren Connors (AKA Loren MazzaCane Connors), 
with a new album _The Departing of Dream Vol. II_.  For solo + voice: 
Cat Power (Chan Marshall), with her new album _You Are Free_ (although 
she tours with a backup band, and the album has some songs with fuller 
instrumentation).  Both will definitely be on my top ten of 2003.
