An interesting quote, I haven't encountered it before. It will make me
reconsider what I thought I knew about Dada, as a rejection of instead of
an expansion of the aesthetic.
I think I have always carefully misread in Dada the latter ~ and as a
field recordist I will happily continue to do so, rejecting this
rejection.
I often feel that to make field recordings and present them is, for me,
predicated with the intention to say, 'listen. there is beauty here.'
Perhaps this is laughably behind the times, reactionary, bourgeoise...
modernist. It still feels right.
I once tried to explain myself to someone as a 'curmudgeon for lovely.'
[Lovely being a convenient polemic, I don't care exclusively for the
pretty.]
