that's odd,
what machine are you using?

photoshop usually starts w/ gamma adjustment, then you may select a colour
profile to use for cmyk and rgb. i notice almost no change when converting
rgb2cmyk. there are some options also, like 'proof colours', you might want
to fiddle w/ that menu.
