a resounding (no pun) NO...it's the introduction of distortion to a waveform
that gives it certain characteristics (ie tone)...otherwise it would sound
worse than general midi...the fact that the notes appear to fall within
perfectly separated intervals of time is also an illusion..without sustain
and the bending of notes you'd have a pretty boring sounding piece...
